Two of the traditional S-Wind Class ocean towage tugs found new owners. March 24th, 2011 SUHAILI was sold to the U.S. based salvage and pollution response company Resolve. The tug was handed over in Freeport, Bahama's and renamed RESOLVE SUHAILI. On April 8th 2011, the ownership of sister tug SIMOON was transferred to the Greek owners Spanopoulos Group and will continue its operations under the name PANORMITIS.
We wish both vessels and their crewmembers a fortunate and safe sailing.
SUHAILI and SIMOON were the third and fifth ocean tug built by Matsuura Tekko, Higashino, Japan and delivered to ITC in 1977 out of totally six identical tugs, under yard number 259 and 262. The 8440 bhp, 102 tons bollard pull tugs were ranked at that time among the most powerful tugs. SIROCCO and SUMATRAS are still operating under the ITC flag. SOLANO is now sailing under the name of KARAR and still being managed by ITC. SHAMAL has been sold in 1998 to Boluda, Spain and renamed VB ARTICO. We are proud that all six sisters are still trading.
A seventh tug, almost similar but no sister vessel, named SANTANIA joined the ITC fleet in 1978. Following a fire in the engine room, also this tug was sold to the Spanish tug operator Boluda.
Both tugs chalked up a large number of noteworthy jobs during their ITC careers.
